Stockton Downed by Rutgers-Camden 64-61

Camden, N.J. – Stockton University (3-3, 1-1 NJAC) produced its lowest point total of the season thus far and fell to Rutgers-Camden (4-3, 1-1 NJAC) 64-61. The Ospreys relinquished the lead less than four minutes into the game and never got it back.
 
DJ Campbell (Vineland/Vineland) tied for game-high honors with 19 points and Tayvon Gaither (Mt. Laurel/Lenape) added 10 markers. Campbell and Gaither tied for the team lead with seven rebounds apiece.
 
Martin Anguelov (Cape May/Wildwood Catholic) contributed nine points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals for the Ospreys. Diante Miles (Wildwood/Wildwood) and Jalen Collins (Blackwood/Triton) netted eight points apiece.
 
An early three-pointer by Anguelov and two free throws from Gaither helped Stockton break out to a 7-0 lead, but Rutgers-Camden scored the next nine points and the Ospreys never led again. The deficit reached 17 at 37-20 before a 12-2 run capped by a four-point play from Campbell made it 39-32.
 
Stockton trailed 41-32 at the break and chipped away during the second half, eventually tying the game 52-52 on a three-pointer by Anguelov with 7:44 remaining. The Scarlet Raptors answered with a 9-2 spurt for a 61-54 count with three minutes to go.
 
The Ospreys scored the next five points on an Anguelov three-pointer and Campbell jumper to get within 61-59 with 19 seconds left. After a Rutgers-Camden free throw, Stockton tried a three-pointer to tie, but the shot was off the mark. Late points by both teams set the final at 64-61.
 
Cameron Downs paced Rutgers-Camden with 19 points and Darnell Demby, Jr. tossed in 15 markers.
 
After starting the season with six consecutive road games, Stockton will play its home opener on Saturday when the Ospreys host Ramapo at 3:00 p.m.
