Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (4-3, 2-1 NJAC) survived a late rally by Ramapo College (6-2, 2-1 NJAC) and pulled off a 71-66 victory Saturday afternoon.
Martin Anguelov (Cape May/Wildwood Catholic) led a trio of Ospreys in double figures with a game-high 19 points, hitting 6-12 (50%) from behind the arc.
The first half was all Roadrunners as Stockton only led once in the early going. Ramapo had the largest lead of the period at 29-21 but Stockton would not let the visitors' lead get any bigger. The Ospreys clawed back, surviving 51.7% (15-29) shooting to trail just 33-31 at the break.
The second half was all Ospreys as the home squad came out of the break on fire, shooting 14-27 (51.9%) for the stanza.
DJ Campbell (Vineland/Vineland) got Stockton started with a rare four-point play to give Stockton a 35-34 lead that they would not relinquish.
A 14-0 run spurred by a pair of threes by Anguelov and four points each from
Jalen Collins (Blackwood/Triton) and
Charles Sapp (Pennsville/Pennsville) pushed the advantage to 60-45 at the 8:53 mark.
The Roadrunners staged a furious rally from there, pushing back with a 21-9 run to slice the lead to 69-66 at the 20-second mark, however
Tayvon Gaither (Mt. Laurel/Lenape) made two free throws with 12 seconds left to seal the thrilling 71-66 victory for the Ospreys.
Gaither added 16 points and tied Campbell for team honors with nine rebounds. Collins rounded out the trio in double figures with 11 points.
Rynell Lawrence (Millville/Millville) topped all players with a career-high six assists as Stockton had 18 assists on 27 made baskets on the day.
Peter Gorman led five players for Ramapo in double figures with 17 points. Anees Raheem chipped in with 13 markers, while teammates Anthony Corbo, who had nine boards, and Jordan Myers added 12 and 11 points, respectively. Justin Bladen was the fifth Roadrunner in double figures with 10 points
Stockton will have another home game on Wednesday night when the Ospreys host Rutgers-Newark. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
