Glassboro, N.J. – Stockton University (3-2, 1-0 NJAC) scored the last nine points of the game and began conference play with a 48-40 victory on the road at Rowan University (2-3, 0-1). The Ospreys scored 26 points, more than half of their total, in the paint.
Imene Fathi (Wildwood/Wildwood) scored a team-high 12 points followed by
Emma Morrone (Maywood/Hackensack) with 11 points and a team-high seven rebounds. Fathi and Morrone tied for the team lead with three assists apiece.
Stockton got off to a good start with an 11-6 first quarter behind five points from Fathi and four by
Madison Dulude (Sewell/Washington Twp.). Rowan responded in the second period and trimmed Stockton's edge to 17-16 at the break.
Morrone netted six points during a strong third quarter for the Ospreys as they shot 8-16 (50%) from the floor and increased their lead to 33-25. Rowan fought back again in the fourth stanza, taking a slim 40-39 edge with 2:35 on the clock.
A jumper by Morrone on the next possession gave Stockton the lead for good and started a 9-0 run to end the game. Morrone went 3-4 at the line down the stretch to help seal the 48-40 triumph.
Dulude and
Skylar Fowlkes (Vineland/Vineland) scored eight points apiece and grabbed six and five rebounds respectively. Nicole Mallard paced Rowan with a game-high 17 points and Jess McLaughlin added eight markers for the Profs.
After the Thanksgiving break, Stockton will host Delaware Valley on November 27 at 6:00 p.m.
