Stockton Falls In Overtime

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (3-3, 1-0 NJAC) played a tough match but fell in overtime to Delaware Valley University (4-1) 68-66 in a non-conference game on Monday night. Trina Deveney-Bethea (Mays Landing/Cedar Creek) scored a career and game-high 17 points to lead the Ospreys.

The game was tightly contested as neither team could muster a lead bigger than six points the entire night. The contest saw the lead change hands 15 times during the evening, as points were hard to come by.

Stockton surged out to a 11-6 lead in the first period, only to see the Aggies respond to take a 21-19 lead after one frame. Madison Dulude (Sewell/Washington Twp.) topped the team with six markers in the quarter.

The visitors took their largest margin of the game at 29-23 off an 8-4 run, before Stockton answered. A 10-0 run, spurred by a pair of three pointers by Brianna Robinson (Cape May CH/Middle Twp.) and Imene Fathi (Wildwood/Wildwood) gave Stockton a 33-29 lead with 3:13 left in the half. Delaware Valley answered with the last four points to take a 34-33 advantage into the break.

The third stanza was more of the same with the Aggies jumping out by five points before the Ospreys answered again. Six straight points gave the home squad a short lived 42-41 lead, as the teams traded baskets to the end of the period with the Aggies holding a 48-47 lead.

Delaware Valley continued to hold a slim lead until Deveney-Bethea hit a jumper to knot the game against at 55 all with 4:04 remaining in regulation, setting up the final minutes. Stockton had a last opportunity to win with 16 seconds left but could not get the final points and the game went to overtime.

The Ospreys were able to forge a one point advantage at 66-65 on a Skylar Fowlkes (Vineland/Vineland) layup with 1:46 left, but the Aggies tallied the final three points to capture the thrilling 68-66 victory.

Dulude posted her second career double-double with 12 points and a game-tying 11 rebounds with Fathi adding 11 markers. Emma Morrone (Maywood/Hackensack) and Fowlkes scored eight points each, with Morrone getting five assists and pilfering three steals. Fowlkes led all players with four blocks and had five rebounds, as Stockton held a 45-36 advantage on the glass for the night.

For the Aggies, Maisie Neuber led five players in double figures with 15 points and tied Dulude with 11 boards. Haley Keenan added 13 points, including her 1,000th career marker and had four steals. Teammates Alexis Wright chipped in with 12 points, with Ciana Feliciano scoring 11 points and dishing a game-high seven assists and Kendra Rigo tallying 10 markers.

Stockton will return to NJAC Play on Wednesday night when the Ospreys will travel to Camden to take on Rutgers-Camden. Game time is scheduled for 6pm.
