Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (7-4, 5-1 NJAC) could not withstand the torrid first half shooting of The College of New Jersey (6-4, 4-2 NJAC) and dropped a 72-36 match on Wednesday night.
Grace Speer (Estell Manor/ACIT) led the Ospreys with nine points, one off her career high.
The Lions started fast against the home squad. With the teams tied at 2-2 before the visitors ran off 13 straight points for a commanding 15-2 lead and never looked back. TCNJ shot 46.7% (7-15) including 3-5 from the three-point line, holding the Ospreys to just 10.5% (2-19) in the 17-4 frame.
TCNJ continued the hot shooting from long range in the second period, hitting six more times from behind the arc in expanding the margin to 39-9 at the break. It was the largest deficit against Stockton this season.
Trina Deveney-Bethea (Mays Landing/Cedar Creek) had four points for Stockton with
Madison Dulude (Sewell/Washington Twp.) grabbing five rebounds.
Led by Speer who potted seven points and
Lauren Winant (Middletown/Middletown South) with four markers, the Ospreys were able to score 13 points in the third period but could not gain ground on the Lions.
The final quarter became academic as the visitors were able to extend the margin and set the final score at 72-36. It was the most points allowed by the Ospreys this season in a game.
Speer tied Dulude for team honors with six rebounds, with Dulude grabbing two steals and blocking a pair of shots.
10 Lions made the scoring column led by Nina Branchizio with a game-high 10 points. Teammate Kaitlyn Deiter added game-highs of nine rebounds, four assists and three blocks.
Stockton will be off until January 3, 2024, when the Ospreys will travel to Washington, DC to face Gallaudet University. Game time is set for 3 pm.
