Wayne, N.J. – Stockton University (7-3, 5-0 NJAC) outlasted William Paterson (2-7, 1-4 NJAC) 75-71 in overtime. With the victory, the Ospreys remained unbeaten in conference play, kept sole possession of first place in the league and extended their winning streak to four games.
Imene Fathi (Wildwood/Wildwood) went 3-5 (60%) from beyond the arc and scored a team-high 20 points to go with five rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Emma Morrone (Maywood/Hackensack) did it all for the Ospreys, compiling a career-high 17 points, game-high six assists, five rebounds, three steals and two blocks. Morrone shot 8-12 (66.7%) from the field.
Skylar Fowlkes (Vineland/Vineland) chipped in with eight points, seven rebounds and three blocks while
Grace Speer (Estell Manor/ACIT) made an impact with seven points and eight rebounds in just 14 minutes. Stockton's play inside was key as the Ospreys scored 40 points in the paint.
Stockton trailed 12-11 at the end of the first quarter and 30-28 at the half. The Ospreys faced a 49-42 deficit late in the third quarter before a free throw by Fathi made it 49-43 after three periods.
The margin was the largest of the game at 51-43 early in the fourth stanza. The Ospreys vaulted ahead 55-53 with a 12-2 run that ended with five straight points by Speer. After five ties, the Pioneers took a 63-62 edge on a Renee Wells free throw with 25 seconds left.
Fathi answered with a clutch three-pointer to put Stockton on top 65-63 with eight ticks on the clock but Patricia Welsh beat the buzzer with a jumper to force overtime at 65-65.
Stockton never led during the first four minutes of OT. Fowlkes snapped a 69-69 tie and gave the Ospreys the lead for good with a layup at the 56-second mark for a 71-69 edge. Two free throws apiece by
Danielle Jeffreys (Sicklerville/Williamstown) and then Fathi allowed Stockton to stay in front and prevail 75-71.
Wells led WPU with game highs of 21 points and nine rebounds while Brianna Smith poured in 20 points for the Pioneers.
Stockton will host The College of New Jersey on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in the last game for the Ospreys before a three-week holiday break.
