Center Valley, Pa. – Stockton University (1-0) opened the 2023 season with a 14-9 road victory at DeSales University (0-2). The Ospreys built a 7-3 lead in the second quarter and stayed in front the rest of the way.
Luc Swedlund (Randolph/Randolph) led Stockton with a game-high seven goals followed by
Dante Poli (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks South) with two goals and three assists for five points.
Reegan Capozzoli (Wayne/Wayne Valley) netted two goals and
Ryan Anderson (Avon-by-the-Sea/Manasquan) dished three assists. The Ospreys scored four man-up goals in the contest.
After falling behind 2-1, tallies by Swedlund,
Brendan McHale (Montville/Montville) and Capozzoli vaulted Stockton ahead 4-2. After DeSales got one back, Swedlund scored twice in a span of 1:19 followed by Poli to make it 7-3.
The Bulldogs crept within 9-7 late in the third quarter before the Ospreys pulled away with four straight markers.
Colin Hopkins (Springfield, Pa./Springfield Twp.) started the run, followed by a pair from Swedlund.
Faceoff specialist
Tyler Horvath (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks South) then won a draw, scooped the ball and scored six seconds after Swedlund to give Stockton a comfortable 13-7 advantage with 12:06 remaining. The Ospreys stayed in front by at least five the rest of the way for the 14-9 triumph.
Stockton goalkeeper
Eric Lindskog (Montville/Montville) collected the win with six saves. Colin Adams and Tyler Wolverton paced DeSales with two goals and an assist apiece. Bulldogs' goalkeeper Quinten Lyons made 16 saves.
Stockton will play the second of four straight road games to open the season on Saturday with a noon start at Elizabethtown.
