Stockton Uses Balanced Scoring for 93-86 Win

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (19-3, 13-2 NJAC) saw five players hit double figures, as the Ospreys downed Montclair State (18-4, 12-3 NJAC) 93-86 in a key matchup on Saturday afternoon. Rynell Lawrence (Millville/Millville) led the quintet with a season-high 24 points to spark Stockton to their fifth straight win.

The fast-paced contest featured 14 lead changes and six ties during the game. The Red Hawks came out on fire hitting their first four three pointers to take an early 20-13 advantage before Stockton got their feet underneath of them.

A pair of threes by Milo De Los Santos (Pennington/Hopewell Valley) and a basket by Jonathan Azoroh (Ewing/Ewing) gave the Ospreys their first lead of the day at 21-20 with 13:23 to play in the half

The teams traded baskets until the end of the period, with neither squad gaining more than a five-point margin. The home team was able to take a 45-44 lead into the locker room, with Lawrence leading the way with 11 markers.

Coming out of the break, the pace slowed a bit and the game tilted toward the Red Hawks with a 58-56 lead at 11:08 before Stockton exploded. Over the next 4:13, the Ospreys ran off on a 20-2 run spurred by the three ball.

Three by Martin Anguelov (Cape May/Wildwood Catholic), two by DJ Campbell (Vineland/Vineland) and one by Lawrence, plus a pair of free throws, gave Stockton a 76-60 advantage. Montclair State closed to within six at 83-77 with 2:43 left but could get no closer.

One last three pointer from Lawrence, two foul shots by Kadian Dawkins (Eastampton/Rancocas Valley) and six by Campbell sealed the 93-86 victory to push Stockton into possession of second place in the NJAC.

Campbell aided Lawrence with 15 points, including 7-8 from the charity stripe. Anguelov chipped in with 16 markers, on 4-6 shooting from behind the arc, with Azoroh and Dawkins adding 11 and 10 points, respectively. Azoroh led all players with nine rebounds.

For Montclair State, they also had five players in double figures led by Steven Breeman and Mike Jackson with 15 points each. Kieran Flanagan added 13, with Francisco Paulino and Kyree Henry scoring 11 and 10 points, respectively.
