Abraham Competes in Weight Throw at NCAA Championships

Birmingham, Ala. – Stockton University senior Shahyan Abraham (Orange/Orange) competed in the weight throw at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships, which are being held today and tomorrow at the Birmingham CrossPlex.

Abraham, who competed in the NCAA Championships for the first time in her career, finished 19th with a best throw of 15.35 meters. The distance came of the first of Abraham's three throws. Her second and third attempts landed at 14.42 meters and 15.33 meters respectively.

Abraham's appearance at the NCAA Championships capped an outstanding indoor season. Earlier this week, she received Metro Region Field Athlete of the Year and All-Region honors in the weight throw and shot put from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Abraham became the first Osprey ever, male or female, to be chosen regional Athlete of the Year.

Abraham was voted NJAC Outstanding Field Athlete and earned NJAC First Team spots in the weight throw and shot put after winning both events at the NJAC Championships. Her weight throw of 17.59 meters was both a school record and a meet record. Abraham also set a school record of 13.29 meters in the shot put at the NJAC meet.

Abraham was named NJAC Field Athlete of the Week four times during the year. She recorded three wins apiece in the weight throw and shot put while competing at eight meets. In February, Abraham was chosen as Stockton's honoree for NJAIAW Woman of the Year as well.
