Stockton Splits Two Games in Florida

Auburndale, Fla. – Stockton University (4-5) split two games against different opponents in Florida. The Ospreys fell to Western New England (4-0-1) 9-7 but then defeated St. John Fisher (3-7) 9-6.
 
Jordan Nitti (Hamilton/Steinert) went 2-4 with a home run, three RBI and a walk against Western New England. Giovanni Sciarrotta (Barnegat/Steinert) also homered and finished the game 2-4 with two runs and RBI. Max Kaplan (Wall/Wall) doubled twice, walked and scored once.
 
A two-run homer by Nitti gave the Ospreys a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, but WNE scored the next seven runs in the game. Stockton scored three runs in the fifth inning and then got within 7-6 on a solo homer by Sciarrotta in the top of the sixth.
 
Western New England came right back with two runs in the bottom of the sixth and downed the Ospreys 9-7.
 
Freshman Michael Antonucci (Manasquan/Manasquan) went 2-5 with two doubles and two RBI in the win over St. John Fisher. Fellow rookie Nick Avagnano (Paramus/Paramus) also doubled twice and added one run, one RBI and one walk.
 
Robbie Ford (Green Twp./Newton) went 2-5 with two RBI while Tommy Talbot (Howell/Howell) and freshman Kevin Novobilsky (Ocean Twp./Ocean Twp.) also rapped two hits apiece.
 
Stockton trailed 5-2 before scoring twice in the top of the eighth to make it 5-4. The Ospreys then exploded for five runs in the top of the ninth. Ford singled in two runs while Talbot added an RBI single and Antonucci ripped an RBI double to give Stockton a 9-5 lead.
 
St. John Fisher scored once in the bottom of the ninth before the Ospreys clinched the 9-6 triumph. Rookie pitcher Reece Miller (Toms River TR East) pitched two innings in relief to earn his first career win. Miller allowed one run on three hits with three strikeouts.
 
Stockton will face St. Norbert College tomorrow at 9:15 a.m. in Florida.
