Aston, Pa. – Stockton University (7-7) defeated Neumann University (5-12) 7-0 and 6-2 to post a sweep for the second straight day and even its overall record. The Ospreys won four games in a little over 24 hours by a combined score of 27-3.
Brianna Segnello (Mt. Olive/Mt. Olive) went 3-4 with two runs, one RBI and one stolen base in the opener.
Jenna Patterson (Mullica Hill/Clearview) smashed a double and a home run.
Charli Czaczkowski (Jackson/Jackson Memorial) and
Gabrielle Barranger (Sicklerville/Haddonfield) contributed two hits apiece.
The Ospreys exploded for five runs in the second inning, starting with a solo homer by Patterson. Segnello and
Lilly James (Roseland/West Essex) added RBI singles in the big inning. Stockton tacked on two unearned runs in the sixth frame for the 7-0 victory.
Three pitchers combined on the shutout, with
Nicole Smith (Mt. Bethel/Bangor Area) earning her first win of the season. Smith allowed one hit with two strikeouts and two walks in three innings pitched out of the bullpen.
Czaczkowski provided the offensive power with a double and home run in the nightcap. James and
Kayla Posten (Cherry Hill/CH West) chipped in with two hits apiece and Segnello knocked her fourth hit of the day.
Stockton trailed 2-0 before rallying in the last three innings. In the fifth inning, Posten delivered Barranger with an RBI single and then scored on an RBI double by
Megan Sears (Oakland/Indian Hills) for a 2-2 tie.
The Ospreys edged ahead 3-2 with an unearned run in the sixth inning and Czaczkowski broke the game opener with a three-run homer in the top of the seventh to make it 6-2. The home run was Czaczkowski's first of the season, and it clinched Stockton's fourth straight triumph.
Nerina Tramp (Blackwood/Highland) collected the win, allowing two runs on eight hits with three strikeouts in five innings pitched. Smith came out of the bullpen and hurled two perfect innings to record a save.
Stockton will make a road trip to Pennsylvania this weekend for doubleheaders at Muhlenberg College on Saturday and King's College on Sunday.
