Wilkes-Barre, Pa. – Stockton University (8-8) split a road doubleheader at King's College (8-6), winning the first game 7-0 but dropping the second game 2-1.
Kayla Posten (Cherry Hill/CH West) smacked three doubles and
Jenna Patterson (Mullica Hill/Clearview) stroked three hits including a double and homer.
In the opener, pitcher
Jenna Crampton (High Bridge/Voorhees) hurled her first career shutout as she tossed a three-hitter with a career-high seven strikeouts.
Vanessa Tancini (Levittown, Pa./Harry S. Truman) went 3-3 with a stolen base while Patterson was 2-3 with a home run, two RBI and a walk. Posten doubled twice and scored once in the victory.
Posten doubled and scored on an RBI single by Patterson in the third inning for the only run that the Ospreys would need. In the fourth frame,
Megan Dignam (Philadelphia, Pa./Nazareth Academy) delivered a pinch-hit, two-run double and Stockton added an unearned run to make it 4-0.
Patterson slugged a solo homer in the fifth inning and Stockton tacked on two more runs in the seventh stanza for the 7-0 triumph.
Each team managed just three hits in the nightcap, with Osprey pitcher
Nerina Tramp (Blackwood/Highland) tossing a three-hitter with six strikeouts but absorbing the loss despite not allowing an earned run.
Two Stockton errors in the bottom of the second led to a pair of unearned runs by the Monarchs. Patterson doubled with two outs in the fourth inning but was stranded. The Ospreys finally got on the board in the top of the sixth as Posten rapped an RBI double with two outs.
Stockton was retired in order in the seventh inning and fell 2-1 as the Ospreys could not solve King's pitcher Emily Novicki, who recorded nine strikeouts.
