Stockton Drops Pair to MIT, 5-0 & 10-3

Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (8-10) made it 12 out of 18 games this season against teams that made the 2022 NCAA Tournament by hosting a doubleheader against Massachusetts Institute of Technology (12-1). The Engineers swept the Ospreys 5-0 and 10-3.

Vanessa Tancini (Levittown, Pa./Harry S. Truman) went 2-3 with two stolen bases and Lilly James (Roseland/West Essex) was 2-4 in the opener. Jenna Patterson (Mullica Hill/Clearview) ripped a double for Stockton's lone extra-base hit.

MIT started fast with two runs in the top of the first. Stockton surrendered two unearned runs in the second inning and one more unearned tally in the seventh frame of the 5-0 setback.

Charli Czaczkowski (Jackson/Jackson Memorial) slugged her second home run of the season and Patterson doubled again in the nightcap. Stockton fell behind 7-0 in the first three innings and its first 12 batters were retired in order through four stanzas.

Megan Sears (Oakland/Indian Hills) legged out an infield single to lead off the fifth inning. After Kayla Posten (Cherry Hill/CH West) reached on a fielder's choice, Czaczkowski blasted a long home run to right field that made it 7-3.

MIT tacked on three more runs in the sixth inning for the 10-3 final. Engineers' pitcher Caroline Langmeyer hurled a shutout in the first game and teammate Becca O'Connor tossed a three-hitter in the second game.

Stockton will begin NJAC play on Saturday at 1 p.m. with a doubleheader at Ramapo, which received votes in this week's National Fastpitch Coaches Association poll.
