Stockton Holds Off Immaculata for 13-10 Win

Immaculata, Pa. – Stockton University (10-7) jumped out to a 9-2 lead and fended off an Immaculata (9-7) rally for a 13-10 victory that was the fifth win in the last six games for the Ospreys. Stockton capitalized on five errors by the Mighty Macs to score 10 unearned runs.

Antonio Gatti (Howell/Howell) and Frank Bellezza (Avon/St. Rose) each went 2-4, with Gatti adding two runs and a walk while Bellezza scored once. Freshman Kevin Novobilsky (Ocean Twp./Ocean Twp.) slugged a grand slam.

After falling behind 2-0 in the first inning, Stockton quickly responded with three runs in the top of the second. Cooper Fiore (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) walked with bases loaded to score Gatti and Tommy Talbot (Howell/Howell) stroked a two-run single to put the Ospreys in front 3-2.

Fiore sparked a six-run fourth inning with an RBI single. After another run scored on an error, Novobilsky blasted a grand slam, his third homer of the season, for a 9-2 advantage.

Immaculata closed the gap to 9-7 before Stockton scored four times in the top of the seventh. During the inning, Talbot recorded his third RBI of the game on a sacrifice fly and Tucker Elder (Ewing/Ewing) contributed a two-run single as the Ospreys extended the lead to six at 13-7.

The Mighty Macs made one more charge, scoring three times in the bottom of the seventh to pull within 13-10. Freshman Preston Fazekas (Pompton Plains/Pequannock) struck out the side in the eighth inning and Reece Miller (Toms River/TR East) pitched a scoreless ninth to earn his second save of the season.

Freshman lefty Zack McCabe (Jackson/Jackson Memorial) allowed four runs (one unearned) with six strikeouts in five innings pitched to collect his first career win.

Stockton will be back on the field tomorrow morning for a home game against St. Elizabeth that begins at 11:30 a.m.
