Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (11-7) sent 15 batters to the plate in an 11-run third inning, and went on to down St. Elizabeth (4-11) by a 12-5 score on Wednesday afternoon. Freshman
Michael Antonucci (Manasquan/Manasquan) led the Ospreys with two runs and knocked in a career-high three RBI on the day.
The Eagles opened the scoring, plating a pair of runs in the first inning for a 2-0 lead. Stockton would answer with their huge outburst in the bottom half of the third to take over the contest.
The Ospreys scored 11 runs on seven hits and took advantage of three Eagles' miscues. The big blows in the inning came from a two run double by
Nick Avagnano (Paramus/Paramus) and two-run singles by
Robbie Ford (Green Twp./Newton) and Antonucci for a commanding 11-2 lead after three frames.
The visitors tallied three unearned runs in the top of the seventh inning to cut the margin to 11-5, before Antonucci capped the scoring with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth to seal the 12-5 victory. It was the third straight win for the Ospreys and their sixth victory in the last seven games.
Max Kaplan (Wall/Wall) added two hits and two RBI, with Ford and Avagnano driving in two runs each.
Tucker Elder (Ewing/Ewing) also scored twice in the contest.
Alfonso Lombardi (Wayne/Cedar Grove) was the most effective of six Osprey hurlers, tossing three scoreless frames, allowing one hit and striking out four batters for his first career victory.
Jacob Pipercic had two of the five hits for the Eagles and drove in one run.
