Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (12-7, 1-0 NJAC) was opportunistic in posting a 9-2 victory over Ramapo (11-7, 0-1) in the conference opener. The Ospreys capitalized on four errors, eight walks and three hit batters to record their fourth straight win and ninth in the last 11 games.
Freshman
Antonio Gatti (Howell/Howell) rapped two of Stockton's seven hits and scored twice.
Max Kaplan (Wall/Wall) went 1-3 with three RBI and two walks while
Tucker Elder (Ewing/Ewing) contributed a double, two RBI, one run, one walk and one stolen base.
Ramapo got on the board with a run in the top of the third and the Ospreys quickly tied the game on an RBI single by freshman
Kevin Novobilsky (Ocean Twp./Ocean Twp.) that scored Elder in the bottom half.
Stockton took the lead at 3-1 on bases-loaded walks to Elder and Kaplan in the bottom of the fourth. Ramapo got within 3-2 in the top of the fifth, but the Ospreys put the game away with four runs in the bottom half.
Gatti scored the first marker on a fielder's choice and Elder was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded for his second RBI of the game. Kaplan then stroked a two-run single that made it 7-2.
Gatti scored on a throwing error in the sixth inning and
Robbie Ford (Green Twp./Newton) added an RBI single in the eighth frame for the 9-2 final.
Stockton starter
Mike Schiattarella (Manahawkin/Southern Regional) allowed two runs on five hits in five innings pitched to improve to 4-1 on the season with the win.
After
Dylan Sakele (Rumson/Rumson-Fair Haven) tossed a perfect sixth inning, freshman
Antonio Sansone (Middletown/Middletown South) hurled three scoreless frames with three strikeouts to close the game. Neither Sakele nor Sansone allowed a hit.
Will Egner went 2-3 with a double and a run scored for Ramapo.
Stockton will host Ramapo again tomorrow, with the first pitch set for 3:30 p.m.
