Stockton Uses Third Quarter Surge to Win 13-8

Scranton, PA – Stockton University (4-1) poured in six straight goals in the third quarter and went on to down Marywood (2-2) 13-8 on Saturday afternoon. Isabella Marinello (West Caldwell/Caldwell) scored four goals with two assists for six points to lead the Ospreys.
 
Stockton opened the scoring hitting the net for the first two scores on tallies by Marinello and freshman Aubrey Giordano (Mt. Olive/Mt. Olive) for a 2-0 lead at 10:15. The Pacers got one back just 15 seconds later, before Marinello and Emily Deworsop (Monroe Twp./Monroe Twp.) offset a pair from the home team for a 4-3 lead after one frame.
 
The teams cancelled each other in the second period, with each squad scoring three times, as the teams went to the break with Stockton holding a slim 7-6 advantage. Giordano pushed Stockton to the one goal lead with a marker with seven seconds left until the half on a Marinello assist.
 
The game turned swiftly in the third quarter as Stockton hit the net six times, while holding Marywood scoreless to take a commanding 13-6 lead. Mary McLaughlin (Somers Point/Mainland) and Giordano both scored twice, with Marinello and Lucy Sullivan Lafayette Hill/Pa/Plymouth Meeting) adding markers.
 
The Osprey defense tightened allowing a pair of goals in the final period and came away with the 13-8 victory. It was the fourth consecutive win for Stockton.
 
Giordano also tallied four goals with one helper for five points on the day, with McLaughlin adding two goals. Lilly Alessandro chipped in with a goal and dished an assist. Defensively, Meghan Pellegrino (Somers Point/Mainland) had five caused turnovers, which tied for a Stockton single game high, and scooped five ground balls. Goalkeeper Jordan Hawkes made five saves in earning her fourth win of the season.
 
Emma Solomon and Kaitlyn Smith both scored three goals with two assists for five points for Marywood. Avery Meighan grabbed a game-high 11 draw controls with netminder Kortney Harry starting and making three saves in 12:20, taking the loss. Emily Dyminski finished the game with nine saves.
 
Stockton will be off until Monday March 13 when the Ospreys will face New Paltz in the first of two straight home matches. Game time is scheduled for 1 pm.
