Stockton Downed by #4 Salisbury 17-12

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (8-3, 0-1 CLC) played in their inaugural Coastal Lacrosse Conference match, but were defeated by #4 Salisbury (10-1, 2-0 CLC) by a 17-12 score on Saturday afternoon.  Luc Swedlund (Randolph/Randolph) and Reegan Capozzoli (Wayne/Wayne Valley) tallied three goals each for the Ospreys.
 
The teams battled evenly through the first period as the first 15 minutes ended in a 3-3 tie. Capozzoli, Swedlund and Stanley Kolimago (Lansdale, PA/Methacton) hit the back of the net for Stockton.
 
The Seagulls opened the second quarter by scoring four straight goals, before the Ospreys answered with four of their own.
 
Sean Haddock (Hightstown/Hightstown), Robbie O'Brien (Springfield, PA/Springfield Delco), Swedlund on an assist from O' Brien, and Noam Levy-Smith (Margate/Ocean City) knotted the contest up at 7-7 with 2:04 remining until half. Salisbury scored a minute later for an 8-7 lead at the half.
 
Stockton tallied three of the first four markers in the third period to take a 10-9 lead but the Seagulls took control soon after. The visitors tallied four straight goals for the second time in the game for a three goal advantage at 13-10 after three frames.
 
Swedlund sliced the margin to 13-11 to start the final quarter, but Salisbury sealed the game with four more markers for a commanding 17-11 lead. Dante Poli (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks South) scored the final goal to set the final score at 17-12 in favor of Salisbury.
 
O'Brien added two assists on the day with Tyler Horvath (Chalfont, PA/Central Bucks South) winning 22 of 33 (.67) faceoffs and scooping a game-high 17 ground balls. Goalkeeper Colin Bernstein (Warrington, PA/Central Bucks South) made 13 saves in the defeat.
 
For Salisbury, Cross Ferrara topped all players with seven goals and two assists for nine points. Brice Bromwell and Luke Nestor chipped in with three goals each, with Zach Timmons topping the defense with five caused turnovers. Netminder Nicholas Ransom kicked out 12 shots in goal for the Seagulls.
 
Stockton will have a week off before the Ospreys travel to Fredericksburg, VA to take on Mary Washington in another Coastal Lacrosse Conference match next Saturday. Game time is set for 12 pm.
