Stockton Takes Two from Rutgers-Newark

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (13-13, 5-3 NJAC) extended their winning streak to four straight games, with a doubleheader sweep over Rutgers-Newark (7-15, 1-7 NJAC) on Tuesday afternoon. The first game was 12-0 in five innings, before the Ospreys took the nightcap 8-3.

Kayla Posten (Cherry Hill/Cherry Hill West), Gabrielle Barranger (Sicklerville/Haddonfield) and Megan Sears (Oakland/Indian Hills) all had four hits on the day, with Posten driving in six runs, giving her a team-high 23 RBI on the season.

Stockton exploded for nine runs in the first two innings of the day, sending 10 batters to the plate in a five run first inning. Posten knocked in her first two runs of the afternoon with a double for the big hit in the frame.

The Ospreys plated four more in the second inning, three coming on a Lilly James (Roseland/West Essex) three-run bomb, her fourth of the season, for a commanding 9-0 lead after two innings. Stockton scored their final three runs in the bottom of the fourth stanza to seal the 12-0 shutout.

Jenna Crampton (High Bridge/Voorhees) came on to pitch the last three innings, striking out seven of the nine batters she faced, for her fourth win of the season. The seven whiffs tied her career high.

Game two was a different affair, as the home team jumped out to a 5-0 lead after four frames, but the Scarlet Raiders would answer with a three spot in their half of the fifth inning to slice the advantage to 5-3. The Ospreys were able to right the ship with three markers of their own in their half of the sixth.

Back-to-back doubles by Charli Czaczkowski (Jackson/Jackson Memorial) and Jenna Patterson (Mullica Hill/Clearview) plated one run, before Posten struck again with a two-run single of the 8-3 lead. Nicole Smith (Mount Bethel, PA/Bangor Area) earned her second save of the season, to give Nerina Tramp (Blackwood/Highland) her sixth win of the year in the circle.

Stockton will travel to Jersey City, NJ on Saturday for an NJAC twin bill against New Jersey City University for their next games. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 pm.
