Stockton Outscores Rutgers-Camden 14-9

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (17-11, 5-3 NJAC) unleashed a 14-hit attack and outscored Rutgers-Camden (17-11, 3-5 NJAC) 14-9 on Friday afternoon. Kevin Novobilsky (Ocean Twp./Ocean Twp.) led the offense with three hits, three RBI and scored four runs.

Stockton started quickly plating a pair of runs in the first two innings for a 4-0 lead. RBI by Novobilsky, Cooper Fiore (Pottstown, PA/Pottsgrove) and two by Tucker Elder (Ewing/Ewing) gave the Ospreys the four-run advantage.

The Scarlet Raptors answered with two runs in the top of the third to slice the lead in half at 4-2. The home squad then scored single runs in the fourth and fifth, before exploding for a five-spot in the sixth for a commanding 11-2 lead.

Stockton sent 11 batters to the plate in the frame with RBI by Jordan Nitti (Hamilton/Steinert) and two each by Novobilsky and Antonio Gatti (Howell/Howell) for the comfortable margin. That lasted one inning as the Raptors plated seven runs on five hits in their half of the seventh inning to make the game tight at 11-9.

The Ospreys re-grouped and scored three more markers in the bottom of the frame to stretch the lead to five runs. Nitti blasted his second home run of the season, a two-run shot, before Gatti plated Novobilsky with the final run of the game.

Preston Fazekas (Pompton Plains/Pequannock) and Reece Miller (Toms River/Toms River east) came on to close the door, combining to throw the final 2.2 innings without allowing a hit or run to set the final score at 14-9.

Freshman starter Stephen DeMilio (Tuckerton/Pinelands Regional) threw 6.1 innings, striking out two in picking up his third win of the season.

Gatti had four RBI, while Nitti drove in three more and scored three runs, as every Osprey reached base during the game.

The Scarlet Raptors were led by Jake Watson with two hits and three RBI.

Stockton will travel to Wayne, NJ tomorrow for a doubleheader against the William Paterson Pioneers. The first pitch is scheduled for 11:30 am.
