Trenton, N.J. – Stockton University (18-14, 5-6 NJAC) was nipped 5-4 in 10 innings by The College of New Jersey (15-17, 6-5) in a game played under the lights at Trenton Thunder Ballpark. The Ospreys rallied late to force the extra inning.
Stockton was held to five hits, two by
Antonio Gatti (Howell/Howell), but they drew eight walks and were hit by pitches twice.
Cooper Fiore (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) walked twice and added one hit in extending his reached base streak to a lofty 20 games while
Tucker Elder (Ewing/Ewing) upped his reached base streak to 16 with a single.
Fiore wasted no time in extending the streak as he stroked an RBI single in the top of the first to give Stockton an early 1-0 edge. TCNJ scored two runs in the bottom half and two more in the seventh to put the Ospreys down 4-1.
Stockton's comeback began with a two-run single by
Tommy Talbot (Howell/Howell) in the eighth inning that scored Gatti and
Kevin Novobilsky (Ocean Twp./Ocean Twp.) to close the gap to 4-3.
An RBI single by Gatti in the top of the ninth sent
Jordan Nitti (Hamilton/Steinert) home with his second run of the game for a 4-4 tie.
The Ospreys got a runner to third base with two outs in the top of the 10th, but they did not convert. TCNJ loaded the bases in the bottom half and prevailed 5-4 on a walkoff sacrifice fly by Mike Lagravenis.
Ryan Goodall went 3-5 with a double, two runs and two RBI for the Lions.
The teams will have a quick turnaround as they square off at Stockton tomorrow at 3 p.m.
