Stockton Nipped by TCNJ in 10 Innings

Trenton, N.J. – Stockton University (18-14, 5-6 NJAC) was nipped 5-4 in 10 innings by The College of New Jersey (15-17, 6-5) in a game played under the lights at Trenton Thunder Ballpark. The Ospreys rallied late to force the extra inning.

Stockton was held to five hits, two by Antonio Gatti (Howell/Howell), but they drew eight walks and were hit by pitches twice.

Cooper Fiore (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) walked twice and added one hit in extending his reached base streak to a lofty 20 games while Tucker Elder (Ewing/Ewing) upped his reached base streak to 16 with a single.

Fiore wasted no time in extending the streak as he stroked an RBI single in the top of the first to give Stockton an early 1-0 edge. TCNJ scored two runs in the bottom half and two more in the seventh to put the Ospreys down 4-1.

Stockton's comeback began with a two-run single by Tommy Talbot (Howell/Howell) in the eighth inning that scored Gatti and Kevin Novobilsky (Ocean Twp./Ocean Twp.) to close the gap to 4-3.

An RBI single by Gatti in the top of the ninth sent Jordan Nitti (Hamilton/Steinert) home with his second run of the game for a 4-4 tie.

The Ospreys got a runner to third base with two outs in the top of the 10th, but they did not convert. TCNJ loaded the bases in the bottom half and prevailed 5-4 on a walkoff sacrifice fly by Mike Lagravenis.

Ryan Goodall went 3-5 with a double, two runs and two RBI for the Lions.

The teams will have a quick turnaround as they square off at Stockton tomorrow at 3 p.m.
