Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (19-14, 6-6 NJAC) scored three runs in the final three innings to take a walk-off 8-7 victory over The College of New Jersey (15-18, 6-6) on Friday afternoon. Freshman
Kevin Novobilsky (Ocean Twp./Ocean Twp.) continued his outstanding rookie season with five hits on the day.
TCNJ opened the scoring with three unearned runs in the first inning, before Stockton got one back in the bottom half.
Tucker Elder (Ewing/Ewing) walked and came around on an RBI hit by Novobilsky. The Ospreys then scored four runs in the fourth through sixth innings, while holding the visitors scoreless, for a 5-3 advantage after six frames.
The Lions answered back in the top of the seventh, plating four markers on three hits for a short lived 7-5 lead. In the home half of the stanza, Elder blasted a two-run homer, his fourth of the season, to knot the game at 7-7.
After both teams failed to break the tie in the eighth, Stockton captured the contest in the bottom of the ninth inning.
A pair of hit batsmen, sandwiched Novobilsky's fifth hit of the game, bringing
Nick Avagnano (Paramus/Paramus) to the plate. His grounder eluded the Lions infield, scoring the winning run in the 8-7 walk-off victory.
Novobilsky tied JJ Swentkowski and George Eisenhart for the most hits in a game dating back to 2014. Elder,
Antonio Gatti (Howell/Howell) and
Michael Antonucci (Manasquan/Manasquan) all had two hits each, with Elder driving in three runs and scoring twice.
Starter
Stephen DeMilio (Tuckerton/Pinelands Regional) tossed 6.2 innings with five strikeouts but did not figure in the decision.
Dylan Sakele (Rumson/Rumson-Fair Haven) threw the final two innings allowing one hit and striking out two in earning his first win of the year.
Justin Marcario led TCNJ with four hits in the game, scoring two runs, with Ryan Goodall also scoring twice.
Stockton will play against Montclair State tomorrow in a doubleheader starting at 11:30 am. The game will be played in Montclair, NJ.
