Glassboro, N.J. – Stockton University (20-18, 6-10 NJAC) tallied eight runs and nine hits, including three doubles, but was downed 11-8 by 18th-ranked Rowan University (27-10, 12-4). The game was moved up to 10:30 a.m. to get ahead of inclement weather but still was halted in the seventh inning due to rain.
Kevin Novobilsky (Ocean Twp./Ocean Twp.) went 2-4 with a double, two runs and two RBI.
Max Kaplan (Wall/Wall) was 2-4 with two runs, one double, one RBI and one walk.
Cooper Fiore (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) added two hits, including a double, plus two RBI and a walk.
Stockton got off to a great start as Fiore singled home Kaplan and
Jordan Nitti (Hamilton/Steinert) for a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. In the third inning, a bases loaded walk to
Tucker Elder (Ewing/Ewing) and sacrifice fly by
Nick Avagnano (Paramus/Paramus) made it 4-1 in favor of the Ospreys.
The lead grew to 6-1 in the top of the fourth as Kaplan doubled and then scored on an RBI double by Novobilsky, who then scored on an RBI single by Nitti. Rowan responded with four runs in the bottom half to close the gap to 6-5.
Elder led off the fifth stanza with a single and later scored on an RBI single by Kaplan for a 7-5 count, but the Profs jumped ahead 11-7 with three runs apiece in the fifth and sixth innings.
Novobilsky earned his second RBI of the game with a sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh before the Ospreys were retired and the game was called due to rain at 11-8.
Jason Morgan went 4-4 with a double and three runs for Rowan. Chris Serrano contributed two hits, two runs and an RBI for the Profs.
Stockton is scheduled to finish the regular season with an NJAC doubleheader at home against Rutgers-Newark tomorrow at 11:30 a.m., weather permitting.
