Union, N.J. – Stockton University (12-4, 3-2 NJAC) finished the regular season with a 14-7 victory over Kean University (4-11, 2-3) that clinched the No. 3 seed for the NJAC Tournament. Stockton's 12 wins this season are the second most in the program's 10-year history.
Isabella Marinello (West Caldwell/Caldwell) and
Mary Meduri (Brigantine/OLMA) scored four goals apiece, with Marinello also dishing one assist for a game-high five points.
Mary McLaughlin (Somers Point/Mainland) and
Aubrey Giordano (Mt. Olive/Mt. Olive) contributed two goals and an assist apiece. McLaughlin also added a team-high five draw controls.
Stockton received goals from McLaughlin, Meduri and Marinello in the first quarter but trailed 4-3. The Ospreys took control by scoring all four goals of the second period. Marinello potted two while Meduri and
Lucy Sullivan (Lafayette Hill, Pa./Plymouth Whitemarsh) each netted one as Stockton took a 7-4 lead.
Tallies by Marinello and Giordano in the opening five minutes of the third quarter made it a six-goal run and a commanding 9-4 lead. The Ospreys held an 11-5 advantage after three periods and outscored Kean 3-1 in the fourth stanza on two goals by Meduri and one by McLaughlin to clinch the 14-7 triumph.
Drew Coxson (Chatham/Chatham) contributed defensively with three caused turnovers and three ground balls. Goalkeeper
Jordan Hawkes (Egg Harbor Twp./EHT) collected the win with two saves.
Kylie Giordano paced Kean with three goals, one assist and a game-high seven draw controls. Rosalee Lachner scored twice for the Cougars and Nicole Peters made eight saves.
Stockton, the No. 3 seed for the NJAC Tournament, will play a semifinal at No. 2 seed Rowan University on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
