Mahwah, N.J. – Stockton University (19-18) began play in the double-elimination NJAC Tournament with a 2-0 setback at Ramapo College (30-10-1). The Ospreys are the No. 4 seed while the Roadrunners are the No. 3 seed.
Stockton pitcher
Nerina Tramp (Blackwood/Highland) produced another masterful outing despite the result. Tramp allowed just two hits with five strikeouts and one walk. Both runs that Ramapo scored were unearned.
Charli Czaczkowski (Jackson/Jackson Memorial),
Lilly James (Roseland/West Essex) and
Vanessa Tancini (Levittown, Pa./Harry S. Truman) each singled once. Tancini also reached on a hit by pitch while
Megan Dignam (Philadelphia, Pa./Nazareth Academy) walked twice.
Dignam led off the game with a walk and Czaczkowski followed with a single but both runners were stranded. Ramapo then scored a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the first.
Stockton threatened again in the top of the third as Dignam again led off with a walk and Czaczkowski reached on a fielder's choice in which Dignam advanced to second. James moved the runners with a sacrifice bunt, however the Ospreys came up empty.
Marissa DiPaolo was the winning pitcher for Ramapo. Avery Kontura went 1-3 with two RBI for the Roadrunners.
Stockton will try to stay alive in the NJAC Tournament when they play at top-seeded Rowan University, which is ranked 16th in the NFCA Division III poll, on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
