Madison, N.J. – Stockton University (3-5) used a strong overall performance to sweep Drew University (1-6) in three sets 25-16, 25-21, 25-22. The Ospreys registered a .243 hitting percentage on offense and 14 blocks on defense, with several players contributing to the victory.
Rileigh Wilson (Milton, Del./Cape Henlopen) established a career high with 11 kills to lead all players, followed by
Nicole Palmer (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) with nine kills and a torrid .667 hitting percentage.
Ashley Carkhuff (Hackettstown/Hackettstown), who played the last two years at Drew, contributed a team-high 11 digs plus eight kills.
Teleyah Witherspoon (Hackensack/Hackensack) tallied a match-high five blocks and six kills.
Setters
Kristen Burton (Millersville, Md./Archbishop Spalding) and
Regan Mendick (Newark, Del./Red Lion Christian) dealt 15 and 14 assists respectively.
McKenna Ritchie (Newark, Del./Newark Charter School) scooped 10 digs.
Stockton scored the first six points of the match and cruised to a 25-16 win in the first set behind seven kills by Wilson. Two more kills from Wilson highlighted a 9-5 spurt that snapped a 16-16 tie and resulted in a 25-21 triumph in the second frame.
Stockton fell behind 9-2 in the third set and later trailed 15-8 before rallying with an 11-4 run. The set remained close and Drew led 22-21 until the Ospreys reeled off four straight points, with the last two coming on kills by
Camille De La Torre (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) to close the match 25-22.
Stockton will play in the Neumann Knights Invitational this weekend, starting with matches against Moravian (4:00 p.m.) and Cedar Crest (6:00 p.m.) on Friday.
