Stockton Takes Two at Neumann

Aston, PA – Stockton University (5-5) began play in the Neumann Knights Invitational hosted by Neumann University on Saturday and came away with a pair of wins. The Ospreys downed Moravian (2-4) 3-0 by scores of 25-11, 25-14 and 25-8, then swept by Cedar Crest College (4-3) also by 3-0. The scores were 25-15, 25-20 and 25-17.
 
Against Moravian, Nicole Palmer (East Islip, NY/East Islip) spiked four of her kills in the first set with Jaylah Rolle (Williamstown/Williamstown) blocking four of her game-high six snuffs in the victory. Regan Mendick (Newark, DE/Red Lion Christian) dished six of her 12 helpers in the set. The second set was more of the same with Palmer getting five kills and Mendick dishing four assists.
 
The third and final frame was all Ospreys as they jumped out, scoring 10 of the first 12 points and cruised to the 25-8 win to seal the match. Palmer led all players with 11 kills, an outstanding .556 hitting percentage and five blocks. Aubrey Rentzel (York, PA/Central York) had a match-high of 13 assists and a career-high eight aces. Kate Louer (Clifton/Clifton) seven digs.
 
In the nightcap against Cedar Crest, Ashley Carkhuff (Hackettstown/Hackettstown) led the way with 12 kills, with Louer adding 11 spikes without a hitting error, all in the last two sets. Stockton was in charge until the third set when the Falcons burst out to a 9-4 lead.
 
The Ospreys responded with five straight points to knot the match as the squads traded points until the latter stages of the set. With the Ospreys leading 20-17, McKenna Ritchie (Newark DE/Newark Charter School) scored the final five points, that included a pair of kills by Louer and an ace by Ritchie to seal the 25-17 victory.  
 
Palmer totaled 18 kills on the day with Carkhuff and Louer pounding 16 and 14 kills. Rentzel and Mendick dished 32 and 33 assists, with Teleyah Witherspoon (Hackensack/Hackensack) adding eight kills and a team-high 10 blocks.
 
Stockton will play again tomorrow at the Neumann Knights Invitational, when the Ospreys will square off against Messiah University at 12 pm, then will take on host Neumann University at 2pm.
