Montclair, N.J. – Stockton University (8-5, 6-1 NJAC) outscored host Montclair (6-8, 3-4 NJAC) 11-2 in overtime for a 51-42 victory on the road. The Ospreys maintained sole possession of first place in the conference and head coach
Devin Jefferson collected her 50th career win.
Imene Fathi (Wildwood/Wildwood) was the lone Stockton player in double figures with a game-high 16 points plus five rebounds, three assists and three steals. Fathi has scored at least 13 markers in four of the last five games.
Emma Morrone (Maywood/Hackensack) tallied nine points, a game-high six assists as well as team highs of seven rebounds and four steals.
Skylar Fowlkes (Vineland/Vineland) and
Trina Deveney-Bethea (Mays Landing/Cedar Creek) chipped in with seven points apiece.
Stockton outscored Montclair 24-4 in the paint and outrebounded the Red Hawks 50-37, including 21 offensive boards. The game was close throughout, with 10 lead changes and nine ties.
The Ospreys led 8-7 after the first quarter, trailed 24-20 at the half and led 33-30 after three periods. Fathi began the fourth stanza with a three-pointer that gave Stockton a 36-30 lead with 8:21 remaining, but the Red Hawks used a 10-4 run to tie the game 40-40 with 2:51 remaining.
Although the teams had a combined seven possessions, neither squad scored in the last 2:50 and the game went to overtime. After Montclair pulled ahead 42-40 with two free throws, Stockton answered with the next 11 points of the game.
Deveney-Bethea tied it with two free throws and Fowlkes followed with a basket that gave the Ospreys the lead for good at 44-42. Overall, Deveney-Bethea scored five of Stockton's 11 points in overtime as the Ospreys earned the 51-42 triumph.
Megan Cavoli and Isabella Orlando paced Montclair with 13 and 11 points respectively. Olivia Vero grabbed a game-high nine rebounds for the home team.
Stockton will play its third game in six days when the Ospreys host Penn State Abington on Monday at 6:00 p.m.
