Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (10-3, 1-1 NJAC) attempted to rally from a two-set deficit but fell to Montclair (9-6, 1-1 NJAC) 3-1 in a conference match at The Sports Center. The setback ended a streak of 16 consecutive wins in NJAC regular season matches.
Jaylah Rolle (Williamstown/Williamstown) led Stockton with a career-high 17 kills on 23 attacks for a blistering .739 hitting percentage. Rolle also tallied three blocks.
Nicole Palmer (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) notched a double-double of 11 kills and a team-high 13 digs. Setter
Kristen Burton (Millersville, Md./Archbishop Spalding) dished a career-high 26 assists.
Kate Louer (Clifton/Clifton) and
Ashley Carkhuff (Hackettstown/Hackettstown) registered six kills and 10 digs apiece.
Down a set and 11-4 in the second frame, Stockton gained some momentum with a 14-3 run that vaulted the Ospreys in front 18-14. The Red Hawks later regained control with an 8-1 spurt and put Stockton in a two-set hole.
Rolle helped extend the match with seven kills in a third set that Stockton won 25-17. The Ospreys broke out to an 8-5 lead in the fourth stanza that went back and forth. Stockton later trailed 20-16, tied the match 20-20, fell behind 24-21 and got within 24-23 before falling 25-23.
Camryn Muuss paced Montclair with a match-high 30 kills. Emily Carcich dealt 43 assists while Katie Rodman totaled 26 digs and five aces.
Stockton will play an NJAC match at Rutgers-Newark on Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
