Newark, N.J. – Stockton University (11-3, 2-1 NJAC) earned a conference victory on the road at Rutgers-Newark (6-11, 0-3 NJAC) by scores of 25-17, 25-22, 25-17 on Thursday night. Twelve Ospreys saw action in the win.
Kate Louer (Clifton/Clifton) tied her season high with 16 kills and committed no errors on 24 attacks for a torrid .667 hitting percentage.
Rileigh Wilson (Lewes, Del./Cape Henlopen) also hit double figures with 10 kills and added four blocks.
Ashley Carkhuff (Hackettstown/Hackettstown) contributed nine kills and nine digs while setters
Regan Mendick (Newark, Del./Newark Charter) and
Kristen Burton (Millersville, Md./Archbishop Spalding) handed out 16 and 15 assists respectively.
Stockton dominated the first set and led from start to finish behind six kills by Louer and four apiece from Wilson and Carkhuff as well as a .345 hitting percentage as a team. Louer (6 kills) and Wilson (4 kills) powered the offense in a back-and-forth second set that included 12 ties and five lead changes.
The Ospreys never trailed in the third set as Louer smacked four more kills and Mendick served two aces to help close out the sweep.
Tracey Ilderis topped Rutgers-Newark with 10 kills followed by Bella Foster with nine. Angelyse Orellana dished 27 assists for the Scarlet Raiders.
Stockton will have the weekend off before hosting Kean University in an NJAC match on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
