Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (12-3, 3-1 NJAC) rolled to a sweep of Kean University (9-9, 1-2 NJAC) in a key conference match at The Sports Center on Tuesday night. The Ospreys won with a strong offensive performance that featured 41 kills, nine aces and a .346 hitting percentage.
Nicole Palmer (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) led Stockton with a match-high 14 kills and just one hitting error in 21 attacks for a lofty .619 hitting percentage. Palmer also served three aces.
Kate Louer (Clifton/Clifton) and
Rileigh Wilson (Milton, Del./Cape Henlopen) chipped in with eight and five kills respectively. Wilson was efficient, with her five spikes coming on just eight attacks.
Teleyah Witherspoon (Hackensack/Hackensack) led the defense at the net with four blocks.
Kristen Burton (Millersville, Md./Archbishop Spalding) and
Regan Mendick (Newark, Del./Red Lion Christian) dished 17 and 16 assists respectively in Stockton's two-setter rotation. Mendick also served four aces.
McKenna Ritchie (Newark, Del./Newark Charter) paced the back row with 10 digs.
The first set included six lead changes before Stockton reeled off six points in a row to open up a 23-16 lead on the way to a 25-18 win. Palmer led the way with five kills.
The Ospreys dominated the second frame, never trailing en route to a 25-14 triumph behind six more kills by Palmer. The third set was tied four times, including at 20-20 when Stockton closed out the match with a 5-1 spurt for the 25-21 final. Mendick served four aces in the stanza.
Anne Beckemeyer topped Kean with 12 kills and four blocks. Cayley Elena Morrison added eight kills and Aspen O'Brien dealt 25 assists for the Cougars.
Stockton will travel to Muhlenberg College on Saturday for a tri-match in which the Ospreys will face #3-ranked Johns Hopkins at 3:00 p.m. followed by the host Mules at 5:00 p.m.
