Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (7-5-5, 4-2-2 NJAC) celebrated their final home game of the regular season with a stunning 1-0 victory over Montclair State (12-4-1, 6-2-0 NJAC) on Saturday night.
Ernst Louisius (Asbury Park/Neptune) tallied the game winning goal. The Red Hawks are ranked nationally #19 by the United Soccer Coaches.
Â
After an evenly played scoreless first half, play quickened between the squads in the final frame. The Ospreys had a pair of opportunities when
Noah Jones (Freehold/Freehold Twp.) saw his header off a corner kick sail high at 49:48. Just over five minutes later
Joseph A. Carbone (East Brunswick/East Brunswick) fired a shot that also went over the cross bar.
Â
The Red Hawks had their best chance in the 56th minute but netminder
Brady Bartletta (Hainesport/Rancocas Valley) was up to the task, keeping the game at 0-0.
Â
At the 75:39 mark, Louisius was sent in on a nice through ball from Carbone and found himself alone heading to the net. The sophomore made a move to his right and a tap in found the back of the goal for his team-leading eighth marker of the season and the 1-0 lead.
Â
Stockton's defense did not allow another shot the rest of the way and sealed the one goal victory. With the win, the Ospreys moved into a tie for third place in the NJAC standings with one game to play before the NJAC Tournament.
Â
Bartletta made four saves in posting his fifth clean sheet of the season.
Â
His counterpart Alexander Velasquez kicked out three shots for the Red Hawks.
Â
Stockton will finish the 2024 regular season with a match at Kean University on Wednesday night. Game time in Union, NJ is set for 7:30 pm.
