Chester, Pa. – Stockton University (2-0) won the Widener University Tip-Off for Autism Awareness with an 84-71 victory over Hamilton College (N.Y.) (1-1) in the championship game. The Ospreys took the lead for good midway through the first half and never relinquished it.
EJ Matthews-Spratley (Cherry Hill/CH East) was named tournament MVP after scoring a game-high 22 points to lead four Ospreys in double figures. Matthews-Spratley shot 7-11 (63.6%) from the field and a perfect 5-5 at the line.
Newcomers
Eriq Campbell (West Atco/Lindenwold) and
Logan Mckee (Glen Mills, Pa./Phelps School) chipped in with 12 points apiece. Mckee sank four three points and Campbell grabbed six rebounds.
Tayvon Gaither (Mt. Laurel/Lenape) tossed in 11 markers and was named to the All-Tournament Team.
Christian Armstrong-Thomas (Marlton/Cherokee) snagged a game-high 10 rebounds and scored nine points.
Martin Anguelov (Cape May/Wildwood Catholic) scored five straight points to turn an 18-18 tie into a 23-18 lead and Stockton stayed ahead for the rest of the game. Back-to-back three-pointers by Mckee made it a double-digit advantage at 33-21 on the way to a commanding 49-33 lead at the half.
The Ospreys led by 11 points or more for the entire second half. The margin peaked at 22 points, 82-60, on a free throw by Campbell with 4:07 remaining, and Stockton coasted to an 84-71 triumph that was punctuated by an Armstrong-Thomas dunk at the 22-second mark.
Stockton will be on the road on Tuesday for a matchup at Swarthmore College that tips off at 6:00 p.m.
