Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (8-5-6) advanced to the semifinals of the NJAC Tournament with a 2-1 victory over Kean University (5-9-6) at G. Larry James Stadium. With the win over the No. 6 seed Cougars, the No. 3 seed Ospreys drew a matchup with No. 2 seed Montclair.
Stockton wasted little time in the sudden-death overtime period as
Antonio Matos (Hammonton/St. Augustine Prep) scored the game-winner for Stockton just 1:18 into OT.
Uche Wokocha (Galloway/St. Augustine Prep) started the scoring play with a throw in deep in the offensive end. Wokocha's throw into the box was flicked off the head of
Ernst Louisius (Asbury Park/Neptune). After one bounce, Matos fired a volley shot into the top right corner from about 12 yards away.
Kieran Sundermann (Little Egg Harbor/Pinelands) gave the Ospreys a 1-0 lead in the 67th minute with his first goal in 39 games in a Stockton uniform. Sundermann made a run into the box and volleyed home a long cross by Matos.
Tyler Manteiro tied the match for Kean just under eight minutes later as he scored with 15:53 left in the second half.
In the first half, Louisius, Wokocha and
Carter Bailey (Hammonton/Hammonton) all fired dangerous shots on goal but Kean keeper Dominic Ridge knocked two over the crossbar and fought off the third.
Brady Bartletta (Hainesport/Rancocas Valley) made a diving stop on a 25-yard free kick that was Kean's only shot on target in the half.
Bartletta earned the win with three saves for the Ospreys while Ridge finished with six stops for Kean.
Stockton will play an NJAC semifinal match at Montclair on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
