Newark, N.J. – 23rd-ranked Stockton University (8-1, 5-0 NJAC) earned a hard-fought 63-60 victory at Rutgers-Newark (4-7, 1-4 NJAC) to extend their winning streak to six straight. The Ospreys enter a three-week break in conference games atop the NJAC standings as the only team without a loss in league play.
Martin Anguelov (Cape May/Wildwood Catholic) hit four three-pointers and scored a team-high 16 points. Anguelov also grabbed seven rebounds.
Eriq Campbell (West Atco/Lindenwold) reached double digits with 12 points.
Christian Armstrong-Thomas (Marlton/Cherokee) sparked the Ospreys to a commanding 57-33 advantage on the glass with a career-high 13 rebounds and also scored five points.
Tayvon Gaither (Mt. Laurel/Lenape) contributed eight points and eight boards.
Stockton took its biggest lead at 50-34 on a jumper by Campbell with 15:08 to play. Rutgers-Newark then outscored the Ospreys 19-6 over the next 10 minutes, closing the gap to 56-53 at the 5:19 mark.
Stockton extended back to seven, 62-55, following two free throws by Gaither with 1:38 remaining, and the Ospreys held off the Scarlet Raiders for the 63-60 triumph.
Earlier, Campbell scored eight points and
Devon Johnson (Pine Hill/Overbrook) added all seven of his points in the first half. Stockton led 33-23 after a three-pointer by Anguelov and later took a 36-29 advantage to the locker room at halftime.
Pascal Dodard finished with a game-high 18 points for Rutgers-Newark. Essam Assaf tossed in 16 markers for the Scarlet Raiders.
Stockton will play in the Spartan Classic at York College (Pa.) next weekend, starting with a matchup against Marywood University on December 20 at 4:00 p.m.
