Aston, Pa. – Stockton University (1-0) began the 2024 season on a high note by dominating Neumann University (0-1) 21-8. The Ospreys surged ahead in the second quarter and maintained the lead the rest of the way.
Sophomore transfer
Anissa Serafine (Tabernacle/OLMA) made an impressive Stockton debut with four goals and two assists for a game-high six points in her first match in an Osprey uniform.
Mary Meduri (Brigantine/OLMA) tallied four goals and one assist.
Mary McLaughlin (Somers Point/Mainland) and
Isabella Marinello (West Caldwell/James Caldwell) pumped in four goals apiece while
Lucy Sullivan (Lafayette Hill, Pa./Plymouth Whitemarsh) handed out a game-high five assists. McLaughlin also snagged six draw controls.
Stockton briefly trailed 3-2 before taking control of the game with seven unanswered goals. Meduri and McLaughlin led the onslaught with two markers apiece. After McLaughlin capped the first half scoring in the final minute of the second period, the Osprey advantage was 10-4.
Consecutive goals by Marinello, Meduri and Serafine in the third quarter made it 13-5, and Stockton led by at least seven for the rest of the game. The Ospreys finished strong with a 5-0 fourth stanza that featured two tallies by
Margot Costello (South Brunswick/South Brunswick) on the way to the 21-8 triumph.
Drew Coxson (Lancaster, Pa./Chatham) and
Meghan Pellegrino (Somers Point/Mainland) paced the defense with four and three caused turnovers respectively plus four ground balls apiece. Stockton goalkeeper
Daniela Elliott (Wayne/Wayne Valley) collected the win with two saves.
Lindsey Fagan topped Neumann with game highs of five goals and nine draw controls. Cioni Warrington added two goals and an assist for the Knights.
Stockton will play its home opener on Saturday when the Ospreys host Farmingdale State at 1:00 p.m.
