Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (5-1) fell behind early and dropped their first game of the season, 23-10 to Wesleyan University (CT) (4-0) on Tuesday afternoon.
Brendan McHale (Montville/Montville) and
Noam Levy-Smith (Margate/Ocean City) led the Ospreys with two goals each. The Cardinals are ranked #20 nationally by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA).
The visitors wasted no time in getting on the scoreboard, potting the first five goals of the game, before
Ethan Fought (Bridgewater/Bridgewater-Raritan) and McHale scored to close the gap to 5-2.
After the Cardinals made it 6-2 after one frame, they went on a scoring barrage, tallying eight of the next 11 markers for a 14-5 halftime margin. The second half became academic as Wesleyan outscored Stockton 9-5 in the final 30 minutes to close the 23-10 victory.
Connor Albrecht (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks West) chipped in with a goal and assist for two points, with freshman defender
Chris Funston (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks East) scoring his first career goal.
Tyler Horvath (Chalfont, PA/Central Bucks South) won 18-32 faceoffs (.562), with a game-high 10 ground balls and scored a goal.
Goalkeeper
Colin Bernstein (Warrington, PA/Central Bucks South) played the first 45 minutes making a season high 17 saves.
Ben Blum (Mount Laurel/Lenape) and
Conor France (Ashton, PA/Archmere Academy), making his first career appearance, split the final quarter, and combined to make four saves in net.
For Wesleyan, DJ Dixon and Justin Hazard scored four goals and dished one assist each to lead the Cardinals. Jack Raba added a pair of goals and had four assists for six points.
Sam Jewitt earned the win in net making six saves in 35:54 of playing time. Connor Selfridge and Liam McCarthy finished kicking out three shots combined.
Stockton will take to the road for their next game, when the Ospreys travel to St. David's, PA to face Eastern University on Saturday. Game time is scheduled for 1 pm.
