Stockton Downed Twice by Kean

Union, N.J. – Stockton University (20-12, 11-5 NJAC) entered its conference doubleheader at Kean University (26-11, 12-4 NJAC) with an eight-game winning streak but saw the run end with a pair of defeats by scores of 6-0 and 6-1.

The results slid Stockton into fourth place in the league, one game behind the Cougars with two NJAC games remaining.

Emily Spencer (Southampton/Seneca) singled in the sixth inning for Stockton's only hit of the first game. Helped by two Kean errors, the Ospreys loaded the bases with one out in the frame but came up empty. Kean scored twice in the first inning, three times in the fourth and once in the fifth for the 6-0 final.

In the nightcap, Spencer went 2-3 with her fourth homer of the season for a run and an RBI. Megan Dignam (Philadelphia, Pa./Nazareth Academy) also went 2-3 while Caitlin Cetrulo (Caldwell/James Caldwell) and Megan Sears (Oakland/Indian Hills) added one hit apiece.

After Kean scored two runs in each of the first two innings, Spencer hit a solo homer in the top of the third to get Stockton on the board at 4-1. The Cougars added single runs in the third and sixth frames to deal the Ospreys the 6-1 setback.

Mia Barone (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) pitched a complete game and tied her career high with six strikeouts while walking just one batter. Two of the runs charged to Barone were unearned.

Kean pitcher Nikki Lusnia was the winner in both games as she hurled a total of 11 scoreless innings in the doubleheader. Maya Thompson, Eliza Filus and Karly Messina each hit a home run on the day.

Stockton will continue a busy final week of the regular season with a home doubleheader against Widener University on Thursday at 2:30 p.m.
