Stockton Splits with Widener

Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (21-13) split a home non-conference doubleheader with Widener University (13-17). The Ospreys held on for a 3-2 victory in the first game but came up short 3-0 in the second game.

Megan Sears (Oakland/Indian Hills), Emily Spencer (Southampton/Seneca) and Alexa Panagopoylos (Atco/Hammonton) stroked two hits apiece in the opener. Sears and Spencer each added an RBI while Panagopoylos scored once.

The game was scoreless into the bottom of the fifth before Stockton broke through with three runs on four hits and error. Ava Kinkler (Northfield/Mainland) started the inning with a pinch-hit single, then Spencer, Sears and Megan Dignam (Philadelphia, Pa./Nazareth Academy) all rapped RBI singles.

Nerina Tramp (Blackwood/Highland) pitched six scoreless innings and struck out 12, the second-highest total of her career, before exiting the game. In the top of the seventh, Widener closed the gap to 3-2 and got the tying run to second base.

Freshman Lexi Liquori (Union/Union) then came out of the bullpen and struck out two straight batters to seal the 3-2 triumph. Tramp improved to 12-3 on the season with the win and Liquori earned her first career save.

Stockton managed just four hits in the nightcap, with Spencer and Panagopoylos each knocking their third hit of the doubleheader while Dignam and Aubrey Jeffers (Lumberton/Rancocas Valley) added one hit apiece.

Widener scored all three of its runs in the fourth frame. Three Osprey pitchers saw action, with Liquori tossing 1.1 scoreless innings followed by Jenna Crampton (High Bridge/Voorhees) with two shutout innings in which she retired six of the seven batters that she faces and allowed just one hit.

Kate Tong, Alyssa Gomez and Taylor Bell had two hits apiece for Widener in game two. Caitlyn Katchur tossed a four-hitter for the Pride.

Stockton will play its last home doubleheader of the regular season on Saturday when the Ospreys host New Jersey City at noon.
