Stockton Sweeps NJCU 10-2 and 2-0

Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (23-13, 13-5 NJAC) finished conference play by sweeping New Jersey City University (11-22, 4-14) 10-2 in five innings and 2-0 on Senior Day. The results guaranteed Stockton a home game in the first round of the NJAC Tournament on Tuesday.

Stockton pounded 16 hits in the opener, led by senior Megan Dignam at 3-4 with three RBI and two runs and Charli Czaczkowski (Jackson/Jackson Memorial) at 3-4 with two runs and an RBI.

Regan Mendick (Newark, Del./Red Lion Christian) went 2-3 with two RBI while Emily Spencer (Southampton/Seneca), Caitlin Cetrulo (Caldwell/James Caldwell) and Alexa Panagopoylos (Atco/Hammonton) added two hits apiece.

Stockton took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first but NJCU closed within 3-2 with two runs in the top of the third. The Ospreys answered with one score in the bottom half and broke the game open with five runs in the fourth frame.

An RBI single by Dignam in the bottom of the fifth scored Czaczkowski to invoke the run rule as Stockton walked off with the 10-2 triumph. Nerina Tramp (Blackwood/Highland) allowed two runs (one unearned) on just two hits with five strikeouts to improve to 13-3 on the season.

Strong pitching was the key in game two as Stockton prevailed despite being outhit 5-4. Tramp started and hurled three scoreless innings with four strikeouts. Mia Barone (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) earned the win out of the bullpen with four scoreless frames in which she fanned three batters.

Barone also singled in her only plate appearance while Panagopoylos, Cetrulo and Mendick each rapped their third hit of the doubleheader.

The only scoring came in the bottom of the second. Cetrulo led off with a bunt single and Mendick followed with a hit. The runners advanced on a sacrifice and Cetrulo scored on a passed ball to make it 1-0. Mendick then scored on a sacrifice fly by Aubrey Jeffers (Lumberton/Rancocas Valley) for the second run of the 2-0 win.

Mya Villanueva and Natalie Rosales recorded one hit apiece in each game for NJCU. Sidnie Dabbadie pitched a four-hitter with five strikeouts and allowed just one earned run but absorbed the loss in the nightcap.

Stockton will finish the regular season tomorrow with a doubleheader at No. 1 ranked Salisbury University and then host an NJAC Tournament first round game on Tuesday as either the No. 3 or No. 4 seed pending the outcome of other conference action.
