Union, NJ – Stockton University (20-14, 10-5 NJAC) suffered their second shutout loss of the season, dropping a 6-0 decision to Kean University (25-11, 11-4 NJAC) on Thursday afternoon. The loss drops the Ospreys one game behind the Cougars in the NJAC standings.
The Cougars tallied three runs in the first and a single run in the second inning for a 4-0 lead. Kean added a pair of runs in the eighth frame for the 6-0 lead and that would be all the home team would need in support of Rob Salvatore who tossed a complete game shutout, fanning eight and allowing just four hits.
Stockton's only threat came in the top of the fifth inning with two outs.
Cooper Fiore (Pottstown, PA/Pottsgrove) was hit by a pitch,
Robbie Ford (Green Twp./Newton) singled and
Russell Halvorsen (Howell/Howell) walked loading the bases, but that's where the threat ended, as the Ospreys never came close again.
Zack McCabe pitched well, hurling six innings with three strikeouts and one walk in taking his second loss of the season. Ford,
Jordan Nitti (Hamilton/Steinert),
Nick Avagnano (Paramus/Paramus) and
Evan Bresnen (Allentown/Steinert) all had hits in the contest, which snapped off in a crisp 2:02.
Stockton will try and even the series tomorrow when the Ospreys will face Kean again in Galloway. Game time is scheduled for 3:30. pm
