Salisbury, Md. - Stockton University (8-4, 1-1 CLC) took on the top ranked team in NCAA Division III in a conference game and fell to unbeaten Salisbury University (11-0, 2-0 CLC) 27-4. The Ospreys scored twice each in the second and fourth quarters.
Connor Albrecht (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks South) paced Stockton with one goal and two assists. Albrecht's helpers came on goals by
Alex DeLierre (Basking Ridge/Bridgewater-Raritan) and
Hayden Smallwood (Margate/Ocean City) in the second quarter.
Albrecht and
Ben Malicki (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) each scored in the fourth period.
Steven Woolery (Media, Pa./Penncrest) and
Tyler Horvath (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks South) grabbed seven ground balls apiece while
Brenden McSorley (Mantua/Clearview) contributed three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Salisbury netted the first seven goals of the game before DeLierre got the Ospreys on the board 35 seconds into the second quarter. Smallwood later made it 10-2 but the Sea Gulls added one more for an 11-2 count at halftime and Stockton was unable to make up any ground against the defending national champions.
Five goalkeepers played for the Ospreys and faced 56 shots attempts by Salisbury, with
Colin Bernstein (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) and
Ben Blum (Mt. Laurel/Lenape) making eight and three saves respectively.
Stockton returns home to host Kean University in a Coastal Lacrosse Conference game on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. The match is scheduled to be played at G. Larry James Stadium if the grass field is playable.
