Stockton Rallies to Top Kean 17-16 in Overtime

Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (9-4, 2-1 CLC) fought back from a five-goal deficit in the first half for a thrilling 17-16 overtime victory over Kean University (7-5, 0-2 CLC). The Ospreys led for just 1:33 the entire game yet found a way to win.

Connor Albrecht (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) led Stockton with five goals, including the game-winner, and three assists to top all players with eight points.

Reegan Capozzoli (Wayne/Wayne Valley) and Alex DeLierre (Basking Ridge/Bridgewater-Raritan) added three goals and one assist apiece while Colin Hopkins (Springfield, Pa./Springfield Delco) tossed in three goals for the Ospreys.

Stockton surrendered the first four goals of the game and trailed 5-1 after one quarter. The Ospreys trailed by five three times in the second period before closing the gap to 10-8 at the half. Consecutive goals by DeLierre, Capozzoli and Albrecht in a two-minute span tied the game 11-11 in the third quarter.

The match was tied at 12, 13, 14 and 15 as the teams exchanged goals. Capozzoli gave Stockton its first lead of the game at 16-15 with 2:28 remaining, but Kean's Hunter Jenkinson scored with 55 seconds left to tie the game again at 16-16.

Stockton then survived a faceoff win and possession by the Cougars as Shane Phillips (Springfield, Pa./Springfield Delco) forced a late turnover that sent the contest to overtime. Kean won the opening draw in OT, but Noam Levy-Smith (Margate/Ocean City) caused a turnover that gave the ball to the Ospreys.

Stockton patiently looked for an opportunity until Albrecht beat a defender and fired home the game-winner from a sharp angle to lift the Ospreys to the exciting 17-16 triumph.

Freshman goalkeeper Ben Blum (Mt. Laurel/Lenape) entered the game at the start of the fourth quarter and stopped three of the five shots on goal that he faced to earn his first career victory. In addition to his key caused turnover, Levy-Smith grabbed four ground balls.

Dylan Johnson paced Kean with five goals and two assists followed by Nick Thorne with four goals and an assist. Cougars' goalie Nick Paterno made 14 saves.

Up next, Stockton will play a non-conference game at Vassar College on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
