Stockton Splits with William Paterson

Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (12-10, 3-1 NJAC) split a conference doubleheader with William Paterson (7-16, 2-4 NJAC). The Ospreys won the first game 16-5 but dropped the second contest 20-12.
 
Tucker Elder (Ewing/Ewing) powered the offense in the opener, going 3-5 with two doubles, a home run, six RBI and two runs. Austin Beard (Toms River/TR South) was 2-4 with two doubles, three RBI and a run.
 
Evan Bresnen (Allentown/Steinert) rapped two hits, stole two bases and scored once while Tony Gatti (Howell/Howell) contributed a hit, two RBI, two stolen bases and a run.
 
Stockton scored twice each in the second and third innings before William Paterson made it 4-3 with three runs in the top of the fifth. Elder doubled home two runs and Beard lofted a sacrifice fly in the bottom half as the Ospreys created some separation at 7-3.
 
Stockton later exploded for nine runs in the seventh frame, highlighted by a three-run homer from Elder, and the Ospreys cruised to the 16-5 rout. Starting pitcher Stephen DeMilio (Tuckerton/Pinelands) improved to 4-1 with the win as he registered eight strikeouts in seven innings pitched.
 
Bresnen went 3-5 with two runs and an RBI in the nightcap. Robbie Ford (Green Twp./Newton) was 2-4 with a home run, five RBI and two runs. Max Kaplan (Wall/Wall) stroked two hits including a solo homer and Gatti also added two hits including a double. Kaplan scored three runs as well.
 
Stockton fell behind 6-0 before racing back to tie the game with six runs in the fourth inning. Ford slugged a grand slam in the bottom of the fifth to give the Ospreys a 10-6 lead. The Pioneers responded with 14 runs in the next three innings and downed Stockton 20-12.
 
Stockton will play an NJAC makeup game at 11th-ranked Rowan University tomorrow at 1:30 p.m.
