Newark, N.J. – Stockton University (11-7, 4-0 NJAC) continued its recent hot streak with a pair of shutouts over Rutgers-Newark (4-14, 2-2 NJAC) by scores of 8-0 in five innings and 4-0. The Ospreys have won four straight games and 10 of their last 11 contests.
Nerina Tramp (Blackwood/Highland) pitched a one-hit shutout in the first game and
Emily Spencer (Southampton/Seneca) tossed a two-hit shutout in the second game.
Alexa Panagopoylos (Atco/Hammonton) went 3-3 with two RBI and
Megan Dignam (Philadelphia, Pa./Nazareth Academy) was 1-3 with two RBI in the opener. Tramp ripped a double in addition to her success on the mound.
A two-run single by Dignam and an RBI single by Panagopoylos got Stockton off to a fast start with three runs in the top of the first. Two unearned runs in the third frame made it 5-0. In the fourth, Spencer roped an RBI single and later scored on an error. Another RBI single by Panagopoylos in the fifth capped the scoring at 8-0.
Tramp retired the first 10 batters in a row before allowing a hit. The junior faced just one batter over the minimum, fanned seven and improved to 7-1 on the season.
In the nightcap,
Caitlin Cetrulo (Caldwell/James Caldwell) went 1-4 with a double and two runs while Panagopoylos added a double and Dignam extended her hitting streak to 11 games and scored a run.
Cetrulo and Dignam scored unearned runs in the second inning for a 2-0 lead. In the fourth frame, Cetrulo scored again, this time on a fielder's choice, and
Regan Mendick (Newark, Del./Red Lion Christian) earned an RBI on a sacrifice fly to seal the 4-0 triumph.
Spencer earned her first career pitching win and shutout with a career-high six strikeouts and no walks. The junior allowed just one batter to reach base in the first six innings.
Stockton will host The College of New Jersey in an NJAC doubleheader tomorrow starting at 1:00 p.m.
