Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (12-8, 5-1 NJAC) split a pair of low-scoring games in a conference doubleheader against The College of New Jersey (15-7, 2-4 NJAC). The Ospreys extended their winning streak to five with a 2-1 victory in the opener, but the Lions blanked Stockton 3-0 in the nightcap.
The first game was scoreless into the bottom of the third.
Nerina Tramp (Blackwood/Highland) reached base on an error and
Emily Spencer (Southampton/Seneca) followed with a long two-run homer to left center that proved to be the difference.
TCNJ's Julia Mayernick made it 2-1 with a solo home run in the fourth frame, but Tramp shut down the Lions for her eighth win of the season. Tramp twirled a four-hitter with 11 strikeouts, tying the second-highest total of her career.
An infield single by
Megan Sears (Oakland/Indian Hills) in the first inning was Stockton's only hit of game two as the Ospreys could not solve TCNJ pitcher Maya Knasiak.
Regan Mendick (Newark, Del./Red Lion Christian) drew two walks and extended her reached base streak to 14 straight games.
Stockton righty
Mia Barone (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) pitched better than the outcome, allowing zero earned runs and just four hits while striking out four and walking none. All three runs against Barone were unearned, with one coming in the first inning and two more in the sixth stanza for the 3-0 final.
After a day off tomorrow, Stockton will travel to 13th-ranked Rowan University for an NJAC doubleheader on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m.
