Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (14-10, 5-1 NJAC) took the home-and-home series from Rowan University (13-8, 1-5 NJAC) in dramatic fashion, with a walk off 5-4 victory on Tuesday afternoon.
Robbie Ford (Green Twp./Newton) smacked his second hit of the day, in the bottom of the ninth inning, to push the Ospreys to the win over the #18 ranked Profs.
Â
Rowan opened the game with two runs in the first inning against freshman
Danny Furlong (Howell/Howell) who was making his collegiate debut. Furlong fashioned a solid line of four innings pitched, allowing two unearned runs with one strikeout, but did not figure in the decision.
Â
Stockton took the lead with four markers in the bottom of the fourth inning to double up the visitors. RBI by Ford,
Evan Bresnen (Allentown/Steinert),
Cooper Fiore (Pottstown, PA/Pottsgrove) and a triple by
Jordan Nitti (Hamilton/Steinert) accounted for the scores.
Â
The Profs tallied a single marker in the fifth frame to slice the margin to 4-3, but the teams went scoreless over the next three frames setting up an exciting ninth inning. Rowan knotted the game with a run in the top half of the final inning but could not hold the Ospreys down.
Â
In the home half of the stanza,
Tucker Elder (Ewing/Ewing) and pinch hitter
Gavin Malave (Mountainside/Governor Livingston) were each hit by a pitch. An error loaded the bases setting up Ford's game winner. His single up the middle scored Elder to give Stockton the 5-4 win.
Â
The Ospreys banged out 14 hits with five players getting a pair of safeties each. Ford had two RBI with Elder scoring twice. Stockton's bullpen was outstanding led by
Kyle Cipolla (Westwood/Westwood) who tossed three innings of hitless ball, striking out one.
Reece Miller (Toms River/Toms River East) picked up his first win of the year in relief.
Â
Tyler Cannon and Jason Morgan each had two hits for the Profs with Cannon scoring a pair of runs.
Â
Stockton will begin a home-and-home series against #15 The College of New Jersey starting on Thursday night. The squads will play at Arm & Hammer Stadium in Trenton, NJ for a 6 pm start.
