Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (24-16) shut out Rutgers-Camden (17-25) 6-0 in an NJAC Tournament second round game. With the win, the No. 4 seed Ospreys stayed alive in the double elimination tournament and knocked out the No. 6 seed Scarlet Raptors.
The top of the order led the way, with Stockton's first three batters combining for six hits, five RBI and three runs. Freshman
Alexa Panagopoylos (Atco/Hammonton) went 3-3 with a double, home run, three RBI and two runs.
Charli Czaczkowski (Jackson/Jackson Memorial) went 2-3 with a run and an RBI while
Emily Spencer (Southampton/Seneca) set a new school record with her 15th double of the season and registered one RBI. The previous mark of 14 doubles was set in 1997 and tied in 1999 and 2000.
The Ospreys scored in each of their first four offensive turns. Panagopoylos doubled and came home on Spencer's record-breaking double in the bottom of the first to get Stockton started. Czaczkowski and Panagopoylos stroked RBI singles in the second inning to make it 3-0.
In the third frame,
Regan Mendick (Newark, Del./Red Lion Christian) slugged a double and
Megan Sears (Oakland/Indian Hills) came through with a two-out RBI single for a 4-0 advantage.
Panagopoylos crushed her team-leading seventh homer of the year in the fourth inning, a two-run blast to right center that completed the scoring in the 6-0 triumph.
Stockton pitcher
Nerina Tramp (Blackwood/Highland) hurled her third shutout and 14th win of the season with a three-hitter and 10 strikeouts. Tramp reached double figures in strikeouts for the fifth time this year and tied the fourth-highest win total for a season in school history.
Alana Gannon reached base twice for Rutgers-Camden with a single and a walk. Alexa McNee and Kamryn Kennedy each singled once for the Scarlet Raptors.
Stockton will continue NJAC Tournament play by facing No. 2 seed Ramapo College in an elimination game on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. The site will be either Ramapo or Rowan pending the outcome of the Rowan-TCNJ game later today.
