Galloway, N.J. – The Stockton University men's and women's track & field teams each qualified for All-Academic Team honors from the
U.S Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for the 2024 season. The requirement was a cumulative team grade point average of 3.10 or higher.
The Stockton women's team, under the direction of head coach
Claire Incantalupo, registered a 3.40 team grade point average and the Osprey men's squad, coached by
Jayson Resch, recorded a 3.20 team GPA. The women's team made the list for the 13th consecutive year while the men's squad qualified for the 12th time in the last 13 years.
Along with the team honors,
Megan Campanile (Manahawkin/Southern Regional),
Kayla Kass (Bayonne/Bayonne) and
Michaela Pomatto (Egg Harbor Twp./EHT) qualified as USTFCCCA All-Academic Athletes individually for the second consecutive year.
In order to qualify, competitors needed to have a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or higher and finished the season ranked in the top 50 in the nation in an individual event or top 35 nationally in a relay.
Kass achieved All-America First Team recognition in the indoor 800m and All-America Second Team status in the outdoor 800m. The sophomore became Stockton's first-ever female All-American in an indoor running event and third female All-American in an outdoor running event. Kass set school records in the indoor 800m (2:11.02) and outdoor 800m (2:09.39).
Kass compiled a trio of USTFCCCA All-Region accolades (indoor 800m, indoor 4x400, outdoor 800m) and four NJAC all-conference nods (First Team indoor 800m & outdoor 800m, Second Team indoor 4x400, Honorable Mention outdoor 4x400). She also was a College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honoree and USTFCCCA All-Academic Athlete in cross country.
Pomatto qualified for an All-America Second Team nod by finishing 11th in the discus at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The junior collected USTFCCCA All-Region and NJAC First Team spots in the discus this spring.
Pomatto received one NJAC Field Athlete of the Week award and also was a College Sports Communicators Academic All-District selection. She set a new school record in the discus (47.15m), breaking the mark that stood for 19 years.
Campanile earned USTFCCCA All-Region and NJAC Second Team kudos in the javelin plus one NJAC Field Athlete of the Week award during the outdoor season. The sophomore finished the season ranked second in the Metro Region with a top throw of 39.09 meters.
The Stockton women's team finished third at the NJAC Indoor Championships and NJAC Outdoor Championships as well as tied for 18th at the outdoor All-Atlantic Region Championships and 21st at the indoor AARTFC meet.
The Stockton men's team placed third at the NJAC Indoor Championships and NJAC Outdoor Championships plus 34th at the indoor All-Atlantic Region Championships.
