Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (1-0) captured the season opener for the 2024 season with a 4-2 victory over Arcadia (0-1) on Friday evening.
Makayla Alessi (Manahawkin/Southern Regional) led the Ospreys with a pair of goals on the night.
Alessi started the scoring at 12:39 of the first period for a 1-0 lead. After the Knights knotted the contest in the 21st minute of the second frame,
Olivia Catalano tallied just two minutes later for her first goal as an Osprey on a penalty stroke for the 2-1 margin at the half. It was the sophomore's first career goal.
Arcadia tied the match again at 2-2 in the third quarter setting up a Stockton rally in the final period.
Kirsten Bailey (Burlington/Burlington Twp.) gave Stockton a one goal advantage at 46:46 on a penalty stroke, before Alessi scored her second of the game just under three minutes later.
She took a pass from Riley Demarco (Hammonton/Cedar Creek) and deposited the marker for the insurance goal and a 4-2 margin. It was DeMarco's first career assist and allowed Stockton to run out the clock on the two-goal victory.
Erika Roura (Mt. Laurel/Lenape) made five saves in her first game in net for Stockton and earned the victory. Anna Doblovosky made six saves for Arcadia in the loss.
The Ospreys will take on #4 Salisbury for their next contest. The game is set for 1pm in Galloway.
